Create a backup

  1. Exit the game and retain character files and backups. Do not overwrite them during testing.

Update the client

  1. Install at least 1.0.14 or a newer stable build. It addresses a manual-save issue on other hosts.

Test a small change

  1. Make an unimportant change, save and quit normally. Check the state after reopening.

That is not guaranteed. Fixing the bug does not replace a suitable backup.
