Check queues and updates
- Finish Steam updates and restart the client after a hotfix.
- Stay in a functioning queue: repeatedly restarting can put you at the back.
- During a general outage, try again later rather than modifying local files.
02
Investigate “Access denied”
- Restart the game once and sign in again.
- If access remains blocked, verify files and submit your Steam ID and exact message in a ticket. See the account fix if it mentions a ban.
03
Isolate backend errors
- Restart Steam completely and sign in again. Synchronise the Windows clock automatically.
- If using a VPN, compare without it; alternatively test a mobile hotspot briefly.
- Check specific firewall blocks. Do not disable the firewall or antivirus broadly or exclude entire Steam folders from protection.
- Close overlays individually and retry.
A long backend error number alone does not provide a universal repair step.
04
Document mid-match kicks
- Check the message: inactivity, connection loss and an account ban require different responses.
- Record the time, server name and region. Reinstalling is not a reliable fix for repeated server-side kicks.
05
Find a missing server
- Check official and community server lists separately.
- Check text search, Show Empty and Show Full filters. Use the current displayed server ID instead of an old saved one.
Frequently asked questions
Should I restart during a long queue?
Not repeatedly. Restarting a working queue can lose your position. First check only whether a required update is missing.
